Is this anything?

Yes, it is.  It's CND Ivory Coast - three coats of it, in fact.

You can also see the trauma to my index finger cuticle.
That was some mean slaw.

I had a run-in last night with my 8" chef, and the knife won.  I mangled two nails on my left hand, so they all had to get cut down.  Turns out making Alabama Hot Slaw on almost no sleep can be a dangerous undertaking.  When my nails are super short like this, I prefer to wear very sheer polishes like this one.

Because I was so tired yesterday I couldn't think straight, I decided not to work on my skirt; I'm at the stage of installing the zipper.  I was even too tired to do any knitting!

But what I wasn't too tired for was researching sergers.  I spent some time figuring out what I want, and Hubby ordered it for me!  Should be here on Wednesday - happy birthday to ME!

I'm planning on installing the zipper and waistband of the skirt today, but I've decided to wait on the hem until I've got the serger.  Because the fabric is so thick (denim weight) I'd like to serge the edge and then fold it back only once rather than twice.

I'm so excited - I've wanted a serger for many years but always held off because I wasn't sure I would stick with sewing.  But over the last 9 months, there have been so many times I've wished I had one, I decided to just go for it.

I have a babylock and have had no problems at all. xx

    1. I may take you up on that offer! We'll see how it goes. I'm generally pretty good with written instructions, and it may be coming with a video as well. I went for the Brother 1034D, mostly because it was the one I found the most positive reviews for, and there was one very comprehensive review that let me know it has all the features I'm looking for.

  2. Oh sheesh, a serger eh? You lucky thing, I feel like when you have a serger you're a SERIOUS sewer. haha! I'm still in the beginning stage where 1) I don't know if I'll make something out of this sewing lark and 2) I think they're a bit scary! They have KNIVES on them! lol!

    1. I do think it's better to wait until you know if sewing is going to stick. I figure, I've come back to it enough that it was time to indulge myself. :-)

  3. Serger! Gail, I've been toying with the very same idea.
What features should I be looking for???

Opps, I have my own sewing room It was the dining room - and I have the spare bedroom where I keep fabric and pressboard. My pressboard is 48" x 24". Hubby and I made it.

    1. I was really looking for overlocking for finishing seam allowances and the ability to do a rolled hem and narrow hem. This one can all of those, and I also like that you can use normal spools of thread if you want to instead of the big serger spools.

    2. Originally I was interested in finishing my cloth napkins with a nice, neat edge
now I find there are other grand ideas in this brain
I have a couple of polar fleece tops that are just asking to become a cardi-type rather than pullover

would love to be able to serge like Kat

      I loved the music too!

  4. I'm glad it was only the nails and not the fingers themselves that got involved!
