Color Affection

Wowzers, it's been a long time!  I've been stricken with a lack of motivation to write, and an increase in motivation to finish things up.  In the last couple months, I've finished up 3 sweaters, 2 scarves, a quilt and my blazer!  Most of these have been finished for some time, and just waiting for that rare combination of me having time to take photos and the sky not being grey.  It's that season again :-)

I decided to post them in order of completion.  So first up is my Color Affection scarf.  I guess it's really more like a shawl - it's enormous!  But I generally wear all my shawls as scarves, wrapping them several times around my neck.  Here I draped it in a more shawl-like way, so you could see the stripes.

This project was started last November, and had been languishing for a while.  To be honest, I probably wouldn't have finished it as quickly as I did if it hadn't been for Jen - she and some other friends started a knit-along in October on Instagram, and the camaraderie was just the push I needed.  I even finished it on time to show it to her in person when I visited Asheville in October!

I love the finished scarf, but I have to admit, I didn't love knitting it.  I like the pattern quite a bit - like most of Veera's patterns, it's an innovative and interesting knit.  But my yarn was a bear to knit with:  very splitty.  Thank goodness it's a joy to wear though - it's a lovely mix of silk, alpaca and merino.  Yes, it is THAT soft.

I guess I should have steamed it before taking these pix - you can see the fold lines!  I'm a bit ashamed to admit that aside from the day I met Jen in Asheville, this scarf has not been worn.  It's just been sitting in my drawer.  I love the colors but they don't actually go with a whole lot in my closet other than grey.  Also, I haven't been going out much - I've been staying home and finishing up projects!

    1. Thanks, Debbie! I think this is your kind of design actually - very asymmetrical!

  4. I have to admit: I don't wear my color affection much, either. Mine is far too large and heavy to be a useful scarf, and far too shallow and long to be a useful shawl. The colors sure are pretty, though!

    1. Thanks, Alicia! I know some folks who wear theirs often, but I'm afraid I'll be more in your camp. Still, it's more about the process for me, so not a wasted effort!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! LOL - I like how you're scolding me! I think these photos don't show the true colors. There's only one grey, which is the palest color. The next is a gorgeous aquamarine, and the darkest is really move of a smoky purple.

  6. It's really beautiful! I love the way this pattern looks! Someday I will knit a shawl. I just need to feel confident that I have the endurance to make it through. It's really fantastic that you've been finishing so many projects! I have been going through a bit of a spell with finishing too, and it feels GREAT!

  12. Gail you look amazing in these photos - please tell me you're going to wear this outfit more often because, well, wow!! I really like the size and shape of CA, I think you could get away with using it as a big scarf in the winter over a coat too. And grey goes with most colours... Tell you what, if you find it languishing in a drawer for more than a month this winter, send it over to me cos I think I'm in love!!

    1. Hehehe, it's a deal! Thank you! Yes, when I wore this before I did wear it as a scarf. I like that it's wide enough that it can go either way. You should give this one a go - it's all garter stitch!

    1. Thank you! This is one of those projects that, if you start looking at FOs on Ravelry, you'll see so many great color combos that you'll want to make about a million of these! I know a few people who have made several!

  18. It's beautifl, so beautiful. Maybe you can make it more of a house wrap, that way you can wear it often without worrying if your coordinate! I've got a couple of shawl patterns in my queue, one in particular looks like waves, can't remember the name but you've inspired me to start thinking about sourcing some yarn for it!
