Coverstitch Video

Waaaaaaay back, I promised to make a video with some tips on using the Brother 2340CV Coverstitch machine, because a few of you had bought one and were having some troubles.  Ooops!  I did get my machine out a few times since then, but it always seemed to be on dark, dreary days.

Yesterday I got it out for the first time in a long time, and it was sunny.  So I made a video showing how the machine works best for me.  If anybody else has any other tips, I'd love to hear them!  I'm not an expert by any means - my samples worked beautifully, but I managed to mess up the first hem I did right after!!

  1. Great video! I have found that I end differently (though I'm sure most methods are right - just different). I stop, take my something in between the fabric and the underside of the presser foot - then hold the tension release buttons for the needles, and pull the needle threads forward from under that presser foot. I cut them and then pull so they go to the back via the looper thread. (yikes I hope that didn't sound confusing!) LOL. But then when I'm ready I just sew again. The needle threads stay under the foot and hang out with the looper thread - all ready to go.
Thanks for the video - I love seeing other ways of doing things

    1. Oooh, that's very interesting! I'm going to try it your way next time! I found that the manual for this machine didn't have a whole lot of information so I had to play around with it a fair amount before coming up with this. So I was really hoping someone would have something to add!

  2. Thanks for posting this Gail! I've wanted one of these for a while now, so it's interesting to see how they work and the differences between them and sergers.

    1. Thanks, Debbie! You are welcome to come over and try mine out some time to see if it's for you - or if you just want to finish up some hems and such on your knits!

  3. Thanks for this video. I have had my coverstitch (bought 2nd hand) for about 18months and too afraid to try it. You make it look so easy so will play with it today!

  4. Hi Gail, I've just watched your video (a couple of times) and I wanted to thank you for the great tips! They were so much more useful than the instructions provided by the user's manual :) I was even wondering if I hadn't made an (expensive) mistake in buying this machine! thanks to you I've made friends with it now..
