A dozen and counting.

Remember I said the other day that I'd made two Renfrew tops last week before leaving for New York?  Here's the other one:

OK, I kind of hate this picture because I look dorktastic. But the truth is, this is how I look much of the time.  No, the truth really is, this is actually better than I look much of the time, LOL!  I do usually make at least a small effort when I take pictures for the blog!

Anyway, you've all seen 8 bazillion Renfrews by now, but I wanted to show you this one because I really love how the cowl drapes.  This is a very soft and slinky cotton/rayon jersey I got from Girl Charlee.  I probably should have shortened the body a little to account for that slinkiness, but since I didn't, it can be worn with pants with a lower rise, which is a good thing.  It's really too long for this old skirt from J.Crew, but the colors work well together.

I was also very proud of myself when I made this top last week that I paid attention to my print direction, so the birds are not upside down on the outside of my cowl.  Yay me!

And can I just say, last night I finally watched the first two episodes of The Great British Sewing Bee and I just loved it!  Are any of you watching?

  1. Ooh, lovely. And thanks, I didn't know the 2nd episode was available yet. Love how they try to explain techniques to non-sewers. I have to wonder how some of those people made it onto the show, what was the screening process like?

  3. Nice Renfrew, really pretty fabric! I love the sewing bee - Sandra works at the same hospital as me. I met her the other day and completely embarrassed myself by shouting "Sandra!!!" like an idiot as soon as I saw her. She must have thought I was such a loon!

    1. That's awesome! She seems like such a lovely person, (well, they all do!) and I would LOVE to pick her brain about sewing!

  4. I love this outfit. And you don't look dorky! Or maybe I'm too dorky myself to notice?? I haven't watch the Sewing Bee yet, but maybe I'll have to find some time . . .

    1. Funny! I was just leaving a comment on your blog! This is the skirt I'm wearing today that's the same as what you just copied for your client! Tag says fall 2008.

  5. I'm totally watching.

What a pretty Renfrew. All your Renfrews rock. I need to get some jersey from Girl Charlee. I've seen so many shirts made from their fabrics.

  6. I really have to check out Girl Charlee after seeing the pretty fabrics you've gotten from them. The drape does look great on your Renfrew and it goes perfectly with your yellow skirt. I just watched episode 2 of the Great Sewing Bee this morning. The contestants are all so down to earth and I love that it's actually a 60 minute show - without commercials.

    1. I didn't realize it until after, but it worked out well to show both the top and the whole outfit!

  10. Cute top, and the cowl does look great! I need to make more Renfrews... Which would, conveniently, help me work through some of my GC stash... ;-) Yep, watching, loving, going to be really sad when it's over!

  11. Me too. I'm hoping they'll do another one!

  12. Lovely Renfrew!
The sewing bee is pretty good though I feel sorry for those sewers, a lot of them seem out of their depth half the time! Cripes, I wouldn't make it on a program like that, haha!

    1. I always wonder how much of that stuff is staged on shows like that. No way of knowing, really! But I also think they probably knew what they were getting into. I wouldn't make it either - I never would have signed up in the first place!

    1. I find them much less constricting than pants!
