I owe you one.

So while I was semi-gussied up the other day to take pictures of the coat and the new knit dress, I also put on the Anouk dress I finished over a month ago but never modeled.  I know some people were interested in seeing this, and because I abhor loose ends, I'm posting it now, although there's really not much more to say about it.

Except:  what's up with those wrinkles on the back at the bottom?  I sat down for like two seconds to put my shoes on and this chambray wrinkled!  And also:  the more I look at the color combo, especially with these shoes, the more I like it.

And about the shoes:

More Fryes.  These are the Gwen Woven T-Straps, which I was pretty proud of because I snagged them for something like $25 about 5 years ago at a discount shoe shop in St. Louis.  (Shoe Stop, for any of you in The Loo - I'm sure you know it!  And if you don't, Go.  Now.)  The original price would have been at least $158.  I was in a huge T-strap phase at the time.

Sadly, I can't walk in them.  That's a 4-inch heel which is exceedingly narrow at the base.  No wonder they were $25!  They sure are beautiful though.

So, the dress.  Will I wear it this spring?

I don't know.  It's awfully short.  And not very comfortable, honestly.  I really should have done the broad back adjustment I know I need but never do.  And the armholes are too high for me, which is interesting, because I think I have "high armholes" - almost all my RTW sleeveless tops have armholes that go down too low.  And then there's the armpit flab issue that was discussed ad nauseum.  On the other hand, it makes me look more hour-glassy than I really am, so that's a bonus.

Anyway, I said I'd show it, and I did.  Moving on!

  1. This dress really suits you, the colours are great together! Your tweaks with the pintucks definitely paid off, and the button choice was spot-on! I do hope you get to wear it at some stage...J

    1. Thanks, Judith! I'll probably wear it at least once, just because I took all that time to make it. But for how long I can stand the front armscye digging into my body remains to be seen!

  2. I really hope you wear it because, it does look super lovely on you.. and I don't think it's too short and there's no arm flab in these pictures :)

    1. Thanks, Kirsty. And you better believe there's no armpit flab showing in these pictures - I took great pains to adjust the dress "just so!" LOL!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I've vacillated so much about the color combo - loved it, hated it, liked it. I think I've landed on liking it.

  4. Awww, it's so cute! I love the front detailing, it is so unique and artsy. I'm sorry to hear that it has some problems. I'm also a sucker for pretty wedges even if they hurt like heck after a few minutes.

    1. Thanks, Ivy! Isn't that detail great? Victory Patterns have such unique and interesting details. They're like nothing else out there!

  5. Well it LOOKS super-cute and like it fits well. But I know where you're coming from. If I don't like the way something fits, of if it's just not me ... not gonna get worn. Life's too short.

    1. Thanks, Andrea! I tend to be kind of "Princess and the Pea" about things - as you said, life's too short! In my head, I'm a person who will suffer a little for fashion, but in real life, not!

    1. Thanks, Morgan! It really isn't that short, it's just a little short for what I'm comfortable with personally :-) Certainly not scandalous!

    1. Oh, you would look so cute in this! But you'd have to lengthen it a LOT - these patterns are apparently designed for ladies 5'6" - 5'9". I'm 5'4" and this is the length the pattern gave. I suppose this length is appropriate for the younger ladies though :-)

  9. OK, really G - it's not short at all. It's just not long. I'd put it at mid-length! Very sweet look.

    1. Thanks, Kirstin! You know, I don't know why I wrote "awfully short" - I guess I was feeling dramatic! I think what I meant was that it turned out shorter than I was expecting it to be.

  10. You could have fooled me... this dress looks great in your photos! The length is really perfect. The colors are pretty terrific. But if it's not comfy... that's not good! I have the similar problem with some things I made and they've been sitting in my closet, or I passed them on to friends who fit into them better. I'm glad you posted the final images. I have this dress on my 'to sew' list but haven't found the right fabric yet.

    1. Thanks, Kathy! I do love the design, and I'd love to do the long-sleeved blouse version - I have some white swiss dot I think would be great for that! My big problem is that it digs into my front armpit. Ouch! I'm wondering if the broad back adjustment will help with that, but I'm also going to do some research on that fit issue before tackling this pattern again.

  11. The dress is the perfect length and with these shoes you look perfect! It's really sad that it's uncomfortable and that the fabric wrinkles, and that the shows are so unpractical. But at least you look glamorous in this outfit :)

  13. It's a shame you're not happy with the dress, I think it looks great on you. The colour is lovely, but there's nothing worse than an uncomfortable item of clothing is there!? Love the shoes too. I've been enticed by gorgeous shoes before that have turned out to be way too high.

    1. Thanks, Sam! I used to wear super high heels daily - when I lived in a "driving city!" Now we walk all over the place and it's just not practical :-(

  14. I think it is really flattering, it is too bad it's uncomfortable!

  15. Uncomfortable? That's really too bad (about the shoes too) because it looks super good on you!

  19. Gail, this dress looks really great on you! Hope you're able to get wear from it, but I totally understand that it won't be a first choice if it's not comfortable!! Thanks for sharing the pics... I have this pattern and loved it when Dixie made it too. I'll make it one of these days.

    1. Oh yes - I think Dixie's is my favorite rendition too. I wish it were more comfy - I think that's the price I paid for using a tracing I made a year ago: my body has certainly changed in that time.

  20. You look great in Anouk- it really suits you- I had some issues with it not being as broad across the upper back as I needed and taht usually isn't my issue....you look great!

    1. Thank you! Interesting you say that about the broad back - I do need this adjustment, and didn't really know it when I traced this pattern a year ago. That's definitely one of the fixes I'll be doing next time. I think it will make this design a lot more comfortable for me.
