A quilt sandwich, that is! I finished my top this afternoon! I must say, I like it way more than I was expecting to!
Here it is earlier, as I was laying out the last few blocks:
And I asked Hubby to take a picture of me sewing one of the last long seams:
It ended up being a lot bigger than I was expecting, and I think it's the perfect size for cuddling up with a book (or Netflix) on a chilly evening.
Here's the whole top, completed:
I had so much fun making this, and with the Disappearing Nine-Patch, I think you can't really go wrong - great for someone like me, who lacks confidence in putting together fabric combinations.
Now I just have to decide if I want the back to be plain muslin, or if I want to dress it up a little. I have a couple tiny pieces of some of these fabrics left.
Omg this looks like a huge mount of work! What a lovely combo of patterns and colours though! :)
ReplyDeleteIt really isn't - it's all short, straight seams. Most of the time I don't even pin the pieces together!
DeleteWow, it is so neat to see one of these big projects come together at last, you must feel so productive and excited to finish it now! I definitely cannot wait to see this finished!
ReplyDeleteI was pretty stoked to finish it, and even happier that I actually like it!
DeleteNice, it looks so cheery!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteSo cute! I love the pastels, it reminds me of those Depression-era quilts from the 30s. :)
ReplyDeleteI really need to make a quilt out of all the scraps I have, but they're just *so* time-consuming . . .
I think I bought the fabric with those Depression-era quilts in mind. That style doesn't really fit into my super-modern house now, unfortunately!
DeleteYou really do inspire me Gail! I have always wanted to make a quilt, but first I need to impove my sewing skills.
ReplyDeleteI did manage to make mitered cornered napkins yesterday so that's a start.
I love your napkins! Saw them this morning - that is a great start! If you can do that, you can make a quilt for sure!
DeleteYou're a speedy quilter! I can't believe how much you've accomplished. It's looking great!
ReplyDeleteWell, a speedy piecer! We'll see how long the quilting part takes, LOL!
DeleteSo fast! It looks great! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Roo!
DeleteYay,now the best part! Are you going to tie it or quilt it? Also, I love your rug.
ReplyDeleteHehehe - no, I just finished the best part! Now comes the work! I'm going to quilt it, but haven't yet decided if I'll do it by hand or machine. I'm going to play around with some samples and my free motion foot and see how I do :-)
DeleteThat is a yummy sandwich! I love that DH was able to get a pic of you sewing, and at a great angle to boot.
ReplyDeleteYes, he used all his Spidey skills to get this pic, LOL!
DeleteGotta love this pattern, so repeatable
ReplyDeleteEach fabric gives it a new look
hugs
