Meh.

I finally got around to finishing my first legwarmer yesterday.  I don't love it so much:

I'd been having a hard time making myself work on it because the winter was so mild that I didn't really need legwarmers.  But also, as I progressed past a few pattern repeats, I realized I wasn't so crazy about the lace pattern after all:

Looks like dragon scales.  I'm not into dragons.

I do like the yarn though, so I'll be ripping this one out and using the yarn to make some socks.

It's probably all for the best.  I think I may be past legwarmer age . . .

In happier news,  Hubby and I went to Michigan over the weekend to see my cousin in a play, and I wore my new Still Light dress.  I know a few people were interested, so I wanted to report that I experienced no bagging in the seat (or anywhere else, for that matter) after 12+ hours of wear, at least three quarters of which were sitting down!  Definitely a winner!

  1. No, no, you aren't past legwarmer age! You wear what you're comfortable wearing!
Great yarn and I think it will make lovely socks, as next week we will probably have a heat wave with the way this weather is going!

    1. I know - the second I decide to put the project on hold, it gets cold; and when I decide to pick it up again, it gets warm! I think this project was doomed from the beginning!

    1. Maybe my yarn choice had something to do with my dislike . . .

  3. You are definitely not past the leg warmer stage! What about using the same pattern for the boot toppers I've been seeing around town? Those are pretty cute. Happy to hear that your dress was such a success!

    1. I really meant these to be more like boot toppers, but I've found I just really don't like the design :-(

  5. Oh, but I think they look pretty! However you're the one who has to wear them, so if you don't love them, rip away. Glad to hear the dress held up with no bagging.

    1. Yes - I think I wouldn't wear them at all, to there's no point going to all the work to make the second one!

  6. Sorry about the legwarmers. I'm glad the dress was such a smash, though!!

  7. I give you credit for finishing even one after you realized you didn't like the pattern. :)

    1. For some reason, I kept thinking I might grow to like it!

  8. Erg, so disappointing! But you really have to frog if you know you don't like something-- who wants to hang onto something that'll just take up room in your dresser until you eventually throw it out? But it's sad when something you work hard on doesn't work out. I think I have to frog my Honey cardigan-- I've been in denial because I'm about halfway done with it, but I'm having gauge issues and I just don't think it's going to fit right (do you ever find that you knit at a different tension on your gauge swatch than you do on the project? I've never noticed this before... ugh!!).

Glad to hear the Still Light is so hard-wearing! :D

    1. Oh no! Your sweater and the yarn are so pretty too :-(

I often find that I knit looser on teh actual garment than I do on the swatch. I guess swatching makes me tense! (But I'm also generally too lazy to block my swatch, which could well be where the difference is.)

You can go ahead and wear your Still Light with impunity: it can take it!

  9. I think I've knit a baby blanket with a similar lace pattern. It had the dragon scales look, which was cool for a baby boy blanket. Good for you for realizing you wouldn't like it and frog it without slogging through.
