Fun with leftovers

Today I took the leftovers from my black silk top and the failed pink silk Jasmine* and made a two-sided scarf:

The finished scarf is about 7" x 44"

I'm glad to be able to use up the last large bits of these fabrics.  I tore off crosswise pieces (don't you love tearing fabric?  it makes me feel like the Incredible Hulk!) of the same width and sewed them together with a narrow seam, then turned it right side out and sewed up the ends with a stitch whose name I don't know in sewing, but it's basically like the mattress stitch I use to sew all my knits together.  Et voila!

I feel like a martini would go perfectly with this.  Too bad I still have a cold!

*speaking of which, if anyone wants it, I'll send it to you.  It's too big on me, and it would require fixing the left sleeve, but other than that it's OK.

  1. Oh la la! Love the combo: pink and black and silk - how luxurious!

  2. Didn't see your asterisk and thought you were talking about your cold. However, 'fixing the left sleeve' gave me the clue I missed. I must be dense.
Gail, I've been so lax in posting regularly that I was afraid that no one would be here to see what I've been up to. So happy that you are still here to visit my blog.
As soon as I finish my current shawl [am on the border now] I hope to regain control over the rest of my time :*)

  3. Too funny, Gerry! I guess I should have been more clear! I do want to get rid of the cold, but not badly enough to give it to anyone else!

Andrea - it is luxurious! In fact, I think a martini is too pedestrian. It requires a champagne cocktail.

  4. Since you can't/shouldn't have a martini with your cold, how about a shot of whisky? Scarves look great -- you're so clever!

  5. Love this scarf-- it's super elegant! What a great way to use up leftover fabric!

Oh, and, aren't martinis medicinal? ;)

  6. Thanks, girls!

I wish martinis or whiskey were medicinal, but even in the best of times they make me stuffy. Definitely not something I want right now!
