The Elephant in the Room: the Demise of the Stash Diet

Well, it probably comes as no surprise that I fell off the Stash Diet wagon quite some time ago.  I bought a lot of fabric over the summer - partly because it filled the void of not being able to sew; partly because Hubby saw some guitar-print fabrics he wanted for new shirts; partly because I was high on Emery Dress fumes and wanted Emery Dresses in All The Fabrics.

But there's been something else going on as well.  More and more, I've limited what I share on Flickr, and that is mostly because I've gotten a fair number of creepers following me.  It's gotten to the point that I've decided to completely delete my Flickr account rather than continue to deal with it.

That is a personal decision, but as one of the administrators of the Stash Diet, I felt I should let everyone know.  There are still a few members who are actively participating.  Perhaps someone would like to take over as an administrator?  If so, please let me know.

  1. Bummer about the creepers.

And I too fell off the wagon. Happened in NYC. Told myself I would only buy fabric when I travelled but I felt the need for more once I was back home! And since I don't sew as much, fabric fills that void. I feel you on that one.

  2. Sorry to hear you've had creepers. I'm a bit on and off the stash diet but I think something is better then nothing at least. Hope you enjoy your pretty new fabric.

  4. I'm too old to get creepers, but I have wondered if that happens to younger ladies. How horrible - I had a stalker when I was a young lady and it is a really freaky feeling. I don't use flicker because it is banned by our net nanny - because people post R rated stuff there - so I guess flicker attracts creeps. When I host a challenge, I just set up a community blog on blogger and keep it within our community.

  5. I raise my hand and admit I fell off the wagon too. I totally hear you on Flickr. Just today someone followed me who's profile says 'man who appreciates the female body, clothed and unclothed. Especially fond of the mature form.' Just awesome! Sigh, I really need to delete my account!

  6. Eeeeuuuwww, creepers. Sorry to hear. I have noticed a few from the flilckr 'groups' that I've joined (and they had to be blocked from the group) but nothing personally. I rarely, if ever use flickr. I just don't find it a very interesting medium for sharing sewing ideas, etc. It's always reminded me of somebody's photo album that they havn't quite sorted yet.

  7. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Flickr, that's exactly the reason I stopped using it too. It's so weird that people choose to creep on users who use Flickr for such a benign purpose! I had my innocent pictures of handmade items favourited by people with sock and cardigan (!) fetishes, was contacted by a man into tall women who asked how tall I was and was favourited by someone with a VERY graphic picture for his avatar. EW!

  9. That's awful! I remember putting up a photo that attracted a creeper once and it was so creeped out I took it straight down. I'm so sorry that you've had to put up with this. As far as off the stash diet goes - go for it! I'm hopeless at rules surrounding stash - both fabric and yarn.

  10. Ugh. Creepers. I do not blame you for avoiding them all together. On a lighter note, I also do not blame you for adding to your stash. I'm a terrible enabler that way. :-D

  11. Sorry you had creepers. Ppl can be disgusting and ruin something so simple and pure. I can understand the whole busting the diet. I have all these bright colors. Hard to just knit something so bright or with just one skein.

  12. I'm so glad Emma Jayne stepped up to the plate and that you have been able to delete that account - I know how much it was bothering you.
