Turn of Events

I just finished my third Pencil Skirt, which I do believe I'll don to go to a jazz concert tonight:

This one is made from Anna Maria Horner "Turn of Events" velveteen.  As I was cutting it out yesterday, I posted a picture to instagram, saying "I love this fabric."

And as I was working on the skirt, it occurred to me:  yes, I REALLY love this fabric.  Look:

I think it's funny that I didn't realize until halfway through making the skirt that this is the third garment I've made from a "Turn of Events" fabric!

First was my Continental Blouse, made from cotton voile in December 2011.  I still wear this fairly often.

Then there was my first coat from February last year, made with home dec weight cotton sateen.

And now this skirt, made of cotton velveteen.  So yes, it's fair to say I love this fabric!

And I think I'm ready to move on from pencil skirts now.  At least for a while :-)  I've got two more cuts of AMH velveteen that are destined to become a couple more pencils, so it may be a short-ish break.

  1. That skirt looks amazing. I may have to give this cotton velveteen stuff a try.

    1. Thanks! It's not the most fun stuff to sew with (not horrible though) but the result feels so luxurious!

    1. It's been out of print for a couple years, but if you can find some, go for it! It was from her "Innocent Crush" line, if that helps, and I think this color might be called "Pow."

  5. I love what you're doing. Making all these skirts. I really, really, need to find a pattern that works well for me and make a variety of them to build my daily "uniform" wardrobe.

    1. Thanks, Michelle! This is actually "frosting" for me, as my uniform is grubby t-shirt and jeans. Don't care though! I love pretty things!

    1. And you know what? If I could get more of the voile, I would! Good thing I have plenty of other AMH fabrics in my stash - so many they got their own page!

  7. Did you do a lining for this one? I'm wondering what the inside of the cotton velveteen feels like - the outside looks so luxurious!

    1. The inside is kind of like cotton canvas, only softer. I didn't line this one, although I probably should have. However, I ALWAYS wear a slip whether a skirt is lined or not, so it will be fine.

    1. Thank you! When we were at the concert last night, Hubby was staring at me and I said, "What's wrong?" He said, "I like your skirt!" LOL! He made me nervous for a minute!

  12. I think this one is my favourite of the three, probably because I love the way that velveteen feels, and also because those colours are more along the lines of what I usually wear. But, I really like them all.

    1. I have to say, my fave is still the coat, because those are MY colors! But I love all three.

    1. There's still some of the home dec sateen in a gorgeous teal colorway at one of the US online vendors. I'm sorely tempted! Good thing I'm on the diet, or I'd be stashing more!

    1. Cozy - but it kind of bit me in the butt! I should have lined it after all - turns out 2" deep hem + sweater tights = hard to walk, LOL! In future I won't be so lazy ;-)

  17. Ha! So funny you didn't realize you owned this fabric X3! But, I can see why you do, it is really beautiful!

    1. Isn't it gorgeous? Sadly, I believe it's out of print now. The print is from Anna Maria Horner's Innocent Crush line, and the design is called "Turn of Events." The skirt is in velveteen, the top is in voile and the coat is in cotton sateen. I got mine a couple years ago from Fabric.com, but you might be able to find some with some creative googling.
