So Far Behind: Archer #2

Yeesh.  I think I finished this a couple weeks ago!  And then we had a lot of grey weather and it hung on my dresser like this:

Until finally last weekend we had a nice day, and I wore it on a little outing with my honey.  We decided to go see the inside of the Newberry Library, since neither of us had ever been inside before.  Alas, we'd had a very late night the night before, so by the time we got there, the only thing open was the lobby and the bookshop.  And the exhibition hall, which we skipped because it was very generic looking, and because neither of us is particularly interested in the Civil War.

I had Hubby take some pictures in the garden in front of the library, and I think you can tell I wasn't feeling too well.  But at least I wore the shirt and remembered to get a picture of it to save you all from the Grey Wall!  You can just see the building in the upper left corner.

I like this shirt, even though the huge paisley motifs made the pattern placement a little iffy.  I didn't have any wiggle room really to do it differently, since I originally intended this fabric for a different project and therefore had barely enough yardage.

Wearing this shirt made me start to consider the possiblity that my right shoulder is positioned forward of my left one, in addition to being lower.  I haven't actually had time to do any pinning out yet, but I'm keeping this in mind for my next one.  Interestingly, I wore it again for a little while the following day and wore one of my super-padded bras, which seemed to solve the issue of too much fullness in the right shoulder.  Hmmmmm . . . .  so much to think about!!

Anyway, I like it despite its little flaws, and will enjoy wearing it.

    1. Thank you! Hubby asked me if it was my "best work," and I had to admit it isn't, but I still really like it!

  2. I just finished cutting out an Archer in silk charmeuse...I may rethink that decision when it comes time to sew it up.

    1. Yes, it's pretty passable without any modifications. Imagine how great it would be if I got off my duff and did some fitting!

  4. I love the bold print I never know how to use prints, so I shy away from them. You've gotten a really lovely result!

    1. Thanks, Michelle! Not sure I always succeed with the bold prints, but they are the fabrics I love and continue to buy, so they have to get used!

  5. I love the paisley - and you look great even if you weren't feeling well at the time. I may have just had an epiphany reading this! My left shoulder is higher than my right, but now I'm also wondering if my right shoulder is forward of my left. On fitted bodice's (like the Hawthorn) everything lines up on my left side, but I always have a slight 'puffiness' on my right and the dart doesn't necessarily match up as well as the left. If you figure out how to fix it please let me know! Or maybe I just need one of those super padded bras :).

    1. I will definitely let you know about the fitting, if and when it happens. Interestingly, shortly after I wrote this post, I discovered that the Oct/Nov issue of Threads has an article on how to do this adjustment!!

  6. I want to make a shirt-I'll have to try and harvest some tips off you eh! It looks great! One of my shoulders is different to the other too, but I can't be bothered making my garments asymmetric haha.

    1. It is a pain, isn't it? So far I haven't done any adjustments for it, even though I've known for a long time that my body is quite asymmetrical. My motto is: never stop moving, and then nobody will be able to tell!!

    1. I love paisley too. Seems like there's not that much of it around these days though.

    1. Thanks, Carmela! I'm proud of my pocket placements, although I don't really have a technique for it - I have to figure it out each time I do it!

  12. This looks really great. It's funny how sewing makes up obsess about dropped shoulders and the like!

    1. I know! I wouldn't be concerned about it if I'd bought this shirt in a shop! But knowing I could make it fit better makes me feel like I ought to!
