Something new, times two.

I spent the day with Sergio and Ken yesterday, and came away with two new skirts!

The first is one I'd started earlier in the week, Simplicity 2314.  A very simple, four-panel flared skirt with lapped side zipper.  I bought the pattern in the fall with a specific purpose in mind.  Ever since 1997, I've wanted to recreate this outfit from Rowan 22:

I just love everything about it:  the sweater (which of course is a Kim Hargreaves design), the skirt, the tights and sandals, the scarf, the beret.  But fall and winter passed, and I never got around to it.

Last month I was doing a little online fabric shopping and saw this Anna Maria Horner fabric.  I got fooled by my monitor into thinking it would be a good match for my Winnie sweater.  I was wrong.  But I do love the fabric.  And I'm pleasantly surprised by the fit of the skirt.

The pattern is a "Learn to Sew" pattern, and it actually took me a while to make - there were too many directions!  I know, that's the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it?  Anyway, this is a straight size 12.  It sits on my natural waist and fits everywhere!  All four vertical seams are perfectly straight, and my hips are not, so I wasn't sure it would work for me.

Trying to show you the side zip.

Once I finished that one up, I made yet another Ginger skirt - this time in a coral pink that's almost the same as my kimono dress.  I told you I love this color!  It goes with SO many tops I have, some of which I haven't been able to wear for a long time for lack of a bottom piece.  I tried a bunch of them on yesterday with the skirt, and Hubby was doing a little critique of which pieces he thought went best.  Too precious!

Did anybody else do any crafting over the weekend?  We don't celebrate Easter or Passover, but we did have a very lovely day outside in the beautiful spring weather on Saturday.  And I got my weekly banh mi!

  1. No crafting for me, just shopping and museum hopping. But I am looking forward to getting some sewing started and seeing about starting on your knit along.

Love the coral Ginger! Such a pretty color. I wore it a lot last summer and I will again this summer.

    1. But your shopping was craft-related! I've seen a post or two from the group already today. Looks like a blast!

I can imagine this coral color looks great on you!

I changed my mind about my yarn for the knit along - just got back from the store with some yellow!

  3. Love the colour you paired the first skirt with. It's such a lovely print too! And yay for pink! That is a gorgeous shade. You have been so productive!

I had a great easter, spending it with my husband.
No sewing for me, but I did manage to retrace my Renfrew with some sizing changes that will help the next one fit better (hopefully)

    1. I think pattern tracing counts as sewing. It's one of the parts of sewing I really enjoy! I need to get busy and make a Renfrew :-)

    1. I also used to knit every single day - until sewing came back into my life!

Thanks for the tip on the violets - mine are in a west-facing window, so that's probably why they aren't blooming!

  5. I love both of these skirts-- of course I love the Ginger, and in coral, even better! Plus, the other skirt is such a nice shape-- it looks great on you! We celebrated Easter by hosting a large group of friends, so I spent most of the day Saturday grocery shopping, cleaning, and cooking, then Sunday I had tons of cleaning up to do after everyone left. After a crazy day at work yesterday, I was so tired that I couldn't move! So I'm hoping to do lots of sewing this week!

    1. Sounds like a fun weekend, even if it was a lot of work! I like having dinner parties; I guess it's the Italian in me - I always want to feed everybody!

I hope you get to do at least some sewing this week!

  6. Beautiful skirts as always, especially the print. I love your KAL series. Even though I'm not knitting along, I always like to see how others think through the process.
