Cassi

I haven't done many nail posts this year, mostly because it seems that any time I have a mani worth showing, I don't have enough light to take a picture!  But this morning I put on a new color that I love, AND there was sunshine!

Zoya Cassi

Until recently, I was pretty opposed to the color peach (and its sister, apricot).  I think mostly because it always calls to mind a particularly horrific sweater I knit when I was a teenager.  Imagine this:  a sweater in the best early 1980's faux-1880s style, done in peach acrylic sport weight yarn.  The body of the sweater is fan and feather stitch to just above the bust, where it becomes stockinette, transitioning into a high neck with keyhole opening at the back, closing with faux pearl buttons. Now, here's where it really gets bad. Leg-o-mutton sleeves:  fitted stockinette up to the elbow, poufing out in fan and feather and gathered at the shoulder.

I'll pause while you shudder and reach for the mind bleach.

So it's taken over 30 years for me to come back around to this color, but suddenly I can't get enough of it.  The only color I was interested in from the spring Essie collection was the peach.  I went to Walgreen's every day for half a week until they finally put it on the shelf.  And I got this polish when I ordered Zoya's spring collection, to put me in free shipping territory.

I don't think it's the best color on my skin tone, but I do really like it.  It has a subtle silver shimmer that doesn't go away when it dries, like some of the Zoya shimmers. It did take me three coats to get the color and opacity I like, but since I'm procrastinating about starting on my taxes, I didn't mind spending the extra time.

I'm thinking that later I may do some silver stamping over this.  Will report back.

  2. That sweater sounds like it took a lot of time and effort, which says good things about 17 year-old Gail.

I really like the color. I'm sure many of my polishes aren't suited to my skin tone, but I don't care enough to get rid of them!

    1. I agree - I can't even part with the horror that is China Glaze Trendsetter (which looked great on you, but not on me) because it looks so great in the bottle!

    2. :) Thanks! I'm starting to judge success of colors based on the number of kids at work who pet my nails. Based on that, Trendsetter was a big win!

  3. I like the color peach, but can only wear it in the summer when I have some color. Peach on this yellow undertoned winter skin is not a good combo!

  4. Bwahahahahahaha! Yikes, why did we think that leg 'o' mutton sleeves were so cool? I'm impressed you were able to make something that complicated as a kid, though! And the peach color is lovely!

    1. I wish I had a picture of it, but I honestly can't remember ever wearing it!

Where/when I grew up, Red Heart yarn was pretty much all that was available. I'm so glad I live in 2012 now.

    1. You are totally cracking me up! THAT'S THE EXACT SWEATER! How on earth did you find it? Did you make the same one?

    2. Unfortunately, I didn't have the skills back then to attempt such a feat, but I so would have bought it back then. I just Googled it, baby! :-) I was giggling when I was typing in the search terms. (That sweater had to be hand knit, right?!)

Though it's kind of hilarious -- if you do the same search now, several photos from your blog come up too. LOL!!

    3. Oh geez - what exactly did you enter in the search terms? I thought I was past all that nonsense! Maybe when people tell me I have a unique style, that's not a compliment, LOL!

    4. You were totally *IN* back then -- either that, or we were both out. A lot of Jessica McClintock dresses were rocking that Leg o' Mutton.

I wasn't giggling AT you -- I have plenty of my own experience with 80's fashion to giggle WITH you :-)

    5. I just have to add, that I was seriously addicted to (buying, not knitting) intarsia sweaters in the 80's. And teddy bear sweaters . . . at MY age then! I have to find the photos of my wearing a teddy bear sweater in an office setting. OMG.

    6. Heh. You know the Vogue "Map of the World" sweater? (1991) Made it. I used to wear it when I was teaching the lesson about the rotation of the earth!

    7. You guys are killing me! I also knit that sweater and wore it proudly! I think it was in 81 or 82, is that the right time for it? It was all boxy and thick shouldered, but I'd do anything to have it NOW! I did save a lot of clothes from that era and last year did a fashion show for my kids and they were gasping on the floor! Mom is pretty funny in her horrid old clothes I guess. I think I still have the doll sweater pattern for this BTW. I must find it and post it except I think our dolls deserve better.
