Tiny Little Pants!

Here's one of the baby gifts in my current parade of baby gifts - Made by Rae's (free!) basic baby pants.  I made these today, and I can share them because Augie's mom and dad don't read my blog.  Neither does Augie, but he's only 2 weeks old, so that's to be expected.

Squee!  I was giggling the whole time I was making these - they're so tiny and cute!  I made these two pairs in about an hour, and that includes cutting out and going up and down the stairs to iron all the seams.  This pattern is so easy, even if you've never sewn anything before you could make these, thanks to the lovely tutorial Rae posted.  ONE pattern piece - two pages to print out!  If you need a baby gift in a hurry, I highly recommend these.

I did my center and leg seams on my serger to make things even quicker - sewn and finished in one go.  Honestly, the part that took the longest (aside from going through my stash and deciding which fabrics said "Augie") was turning back and pressing the hems and waistband.

Tomorrow I'll be sewing a dress for a new little girl . . .  babies are the funnest!

    1. I know! That's part of what I found so funny! I had to keep reminding myself which is which! Gotta have room for those diapers, LOL!

  2. Augie!! What a great name-- I hope that's the real name and not a blog alias! These little pants are terribly cute!

    2. Short for August or Augustus, or is it just Augie? I also love Atticus.

    3. Short for August. There's some German heritage in there :-)

    1. Definitely easy for a beginner. The tutorial has photos of each step, and you can do it on a regular sewing machine. You don't even have to finish the seams, because let's face it: something like this doesn't really need to be durable, since it's only going to fit for about a month! I just did it because I was used to doing it. Give it a try!

  6. Aw, they are so sweet. My friends daughter is expecting her first baby (a girl) early next year, so I can see a few cute baby items being on my sewing table soon.

    1. Thanks, Sam! Isn't it fun to make things for the tiny ones? I usually knit a sweater when there's a new baby, but all of the friends/family that had babies recently live in hot places, so I sewed instead, and I'm having a great time doing it! Much faster than a sweater too!

  7. I'm going to print this out. I had not thought of giving pants as a baby gift. Great idea! It's not like I don't have scraps I can use!!

    1. I haven't done a whole lot of research, but it seems like there are a lot more patterns out there for girls. But Made by Rae has a lot of boy patterns, which is great. And girl patterns too!

  8. I made this pant for Ollie. It's such a fun, fast and cute little garment. I used my old Threadless T-shirts but I am liking that polka dot you used. Time to grade this pattern up and make him a new pair.

    1. I thought it would be more practical in a knit, but I didn't have any that weren't overtly feminine! This quilting cotton has a good amount of crosswise stretch though, and this little guy is only 2.5 weeks old, so I'm sure they will fit him at least for a little bit.

  9. Too cute! I'm going through a whole spate of baby knitting just now. Only girls on the way over here. One due in two weeks, the next in November, one in December and two in January. Pshew!!
